Guangzhou Evergrande midfielder Paulinho has revealed that reports linking him with a move to Bayern Munich is pure speculation.
In one of the more surprising transfer stories of the year, it was reported earlier in the week that the Bundesliga champions had made the former Tottenham Hotspur star one of their top targets for the summer.
However, upon hearing just how important he is to his current club, Paulinho – who recently signed a new deal with the Chinese Super League outfit until 2020 – insists there’s been no contact between himself and the Bavarian giants.
“It is normal to have a lot of speculation in the football industry but I would like to clarify that I have not received any offers,” Paulinho said, as reported by Goal.
“Contrary to recent rumours, Bayern Munich didn’t offer me a deal.
“As a player, I just focus on the games and concentrate on improving myself.”
The 28-year-old has enjoyed a new lease of life since departing White Hart Lane in the summer of 2015 as he’s won two Chinese Super League titles as well as the AFC Champions League which earned him a recall to the Brazilian squad.
He has been a regular in the side under Tite – his former manager at Corinthians – as he’s started all but one of Brazil’s games in qualification for next summer’s World Cup in Russia, netting a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Uruguay in March before weighing in with two assists against Paraguay a few days later.
