Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, has hailed the quality of football in the Chinese Super League and admits that the offer to join his national team captain, John Mikel Obi at Tiajin Teda was too tempting to be ignored, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ideye who signed for Tiajin TEDA in February for 12 Million Euros and will earn 3.5 million euros annually spoke on the BBC programme Sport Today on Wednesday monitored by Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The way I saw it before coming, I thought it was going to be like playing with a bunch of kids or adults who did not know much about the game,” Ideye told the BBC.
“But here they know football, the Chinese, they understand the game. It’s tough, its really, really tough.
“The stadiums are unbelievable. They’re always field up with supporters, crazy fans who come out to cheer their teams. I never thought it will be this way,” the former Olympiakos of Greece striker stated.
Ideye who was not invited for Nigeria’s tune-up game against Corsica on May 26 also added that communication with his teammates have been made easier with the aid of translators.
“It’s been great for the foreign players. They assign translators to you who follow you to anywhere you go. It has made it easier for the foreign players”
Asked about his thoughts on the notion that players who go to China do so because of money and not footballing reasons.
“At the stage I’m now, I guess I should be thinking of improving my life after football. So I chose to go there to be happy. I know it’s not the right time for me to leave Olympiakos, but it is really difficult to reject the offers,” Ideye admitted.
Ideye played for all 90 minutes in Tianjin Teda’s last CSL game on Sunday, a 1-0 home defeat to Shanghai SIPG. It was his eighth game of the season in which he has scored once.
