Manchester United Linked With Lukaku, Rooney Deal
Manchester United want Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and are willing to offer Wayne Rooney in a part-exchange deal. That’s the view of the Daily Mail which claims that the Merseyside club are demanding £100million for the Belgium international who is the Premier League’s top scorer this season with 24 goals.
Chelsea are also interested in Lukaku and they could be in pole position if United fail to qualify for the Champions League. Their only options are either by finishing in the top four of the Premier League or by winning their Europa League Final clash with Ajax in Sweden on 24 May. Lukaku is believed to have stipulated a move to a club playing in Europe’s top competition.
United value Rooney at £17million. However, any compensation payment due to the former Everton player is likely to take a large chunk out of that fee. Rooney earns a wage of around £300,000 a week at Old Trafford and he has two years left on his current deal. He will earn nowhere near that amount at Goodison Park and will want payment to compensate him.
United face the prospect of Rooney staying put if they don’t agree a package. Alternatively. up to £10million of the fee United receive from Everton could go straight in to Rooney’s pocket.
But a return to Everton is unlikely to be the only offer on the table for Rooney. He is also likely to be a target for clubs in MLS and in China’s Super League where Beijing Guoan and Tianjin Quanjian have shown an interest.
Rodriguez ‘Has Pre-Agreement’ With Manchester United
Manchester United are also being linked with a move for Real Madrid forward James Rodriguez. Reports from Spain claimed on Friday that the Colombia international was the subject of a bid of €80million (£68million) from United but that the bid had been matched by one from Manchester City.
It was claimed that Rodriguez told Real president Florentino Perez earlier this week of his determination to leave the Bernabeu.
But Antonio Casale, a journalist at Colombia’s RCN radio station claims there is already a pre-agreement between Rodriguez and United that he will move to Old Trafford.
However, the agreement is dependent on Wayne Rooney leaving Manchester United – and for a rather bizarre reason. Rodriguez has a contract with the sports kit manufacturer Adidas which states he must wear the number 10 shirt. Rooney currently has that number at United.
Casale adds that Perez has the final decision and that decision has yet to be made.
Sergio Romero Rules Out United Exit
Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero says he will remain at Old Trafford for some years to come.
The Agentine has acted as understudy to David De Gea since he arrived at United in 2015. Of his 16 appearances for the first-team this season only one has been in the Premier League although Jose Mourinho has told him he will be in the starting line-up for the Europa League Final clash with Ajax later this month.
Romero has been linked with a move to Inter Milan. But speaking to Sky Italia, the 30-year-old says he isn’t interest in leaving Old Trafford.
“Do I see my future in Italy? No, I want to stay in Manchester for a long time to come.”
