How Did New Imports Get on in Opening Weekend?

There’s nothing quite like the opening day of the Chinese Super League season. It’s been our favourite sporting event for years, honest.

Following Nikica Jelavic’s Guizhou Zhicheng’s 1-1 draw with Liaoning Whowin it was time for the CSL campaign to get fully underway.

Oscar and Hulk both started for Shanghai SIPG, managed by Andre Villas-Boas, as they took on a Changchun Yatai side captained by Odion Ighalo.

And it was the former Chelsea duo who were smiling at the end of the game as a Hulk penalty set Shanghai on the way to a 5-1 win.

Oscar wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet but did claim an assist for the first of Elkeson’s three goals.

Elsewhere Mikel John Obi was unable to stop Tianjin Teda falling to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Shandong Luneng.

Former Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse, starting alongside Graziano Pelle, scored the second goal of the game for Felix Magath’s side.

There wasn’t any better news for Tianjin’s other outfit- Tianjin Quanjian- who lost 2-0 to Guangzhou R&F.

Fabio Cannavaro started both Axel Witsel and Alexandre Pato but neither were able to influence the game, with the latter missing several one-one-one opportunities.

Shanghai SIPG currently top the Chinese Super League table on goal difference, although eight teams still have to play their opening game.

Defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande take on Yanbian Funde, while Carlos Tevez’s Shanghai Shenhua meet Alex Teixeira’s Jiangsu Suning in the stand out game of the round.
